It is with a heavy heart that we learn of Michael's passing. He taught me so much in the early days of our friendship, it was a debt that I forever tried to repay. In later years the brainstorming sessions disguised as long phone conversations could never be frequent enough, but always left me feeling happy and energized for days afterward. Condolence: Mike was a very good friend to both of us when I was chief of Police in Newburgh. Rose and I had a very small wedding almost thirty years ago, and Michael was a treasured guest. We both shared a common vision for Newburgh and its historical buildings. We renovated one of the homes on Catherine Street, and valued Mike's advice and friendship. Over the years both of us thought often of Mike, and Rose attempted to reach out to him in Colorado through email. The world is a better place because of his vision and commitment. Condolence: The first time I laid eyes on Michael was across a long, dusty table in an airless construction trailer. Although we represented different interests we couldn't help but see the humor in a project managed by unparalleled incompetence. We became friends by looking through a lighter lens.
I loved his subtle, measured ability to be objective. More than anyone, he championed my career. We had good times at Saratoga, long, soulful conversations on the phone, belly laughs.
Because Michael's special nature was be personable, we will all miss him in our own way.
